€2m for Fingal house improvement assistance

The announcement of €79.46 in grant support for older people and those with disabilities by Minister for Housing and Local Services, Michael Finneran TD has been welcomed by Dublin North TD Darragh O’Brien. Deputy O’Brien was speaking after the Minister made the announcement which will see €2.1m of assistance provided to people living in the Final County Council area.

“By providing a modest level of assistance we can ensure that older people and those with disabilities can live independent lives close to their families and friends at the heart of their communities. I welcome today’s announcement which will see €2.1m for those living in Fingal,” said Deputy O’Brien.


The Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme for Older People and People with a Disability provides grants of up to €30,000 for improvement works and extensions for private homes. Work eligible includes the provision of access showers, installation of stair-lifts, grab rails, access ramp and a range of other measures. The Mobility Aids Grant scheme is available to fast track grants of up to €6,000 to address the mobility problems of a member of a household. In the case of older people, a grant of up to €10,500 is available to assist householders to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out to their homes.


“Since the scheme was launched 143,000 older people or people with a disability have availed of assistance. At a time of sever pressure on public expenditure this announcement shows the importance we place on strengthening communities and building a cohesive society,” he added.
