Almost €56,000 is being made available for the repair of the slipway at St. James Terrace in Malahide.

The slipway, which is regularly used by the local Sea Scouts, has been in need of repair for some time. Funding has been provided by the Government under the Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme 2010 and has been allocated to Fingal County Council for the necessary works.

I have been pushing to secure this funding for some time along with my colleague Councillor Eoghan O'Brien and I'm delighted that this money has now been made available. This slipway has deteriorated over the years and it was clearly in need of some repair.

Given its importance not only to the local community but also to the Sea Scouts, Malahide Yacht Club and other slipway users, I thought it was vital that we found the necessary funding to complete these works. The Sea Scouts in particular have been using this facility since 1920, which shows its historical importance. They now have 600 members so it is important that the slipway is in a solid condition.

A total of €55,875 has been allocated to Fingal County Council by the Government for these repairs. I hope that the funding will be drawn down quickly and that work can begin in the near future.
