Families should not to let debt mount up after Christmas, as practical help is available.

The holiday period can be one of financial strain for young families in particular. There are huge pressures on parents to make Christmas a magical time for young children.

Often young families face into January not knowing how they will manage their debt, which can be overwhelming – but there is local help available.

The Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) is a free, confidential and independent advice service which gives support to people in debt, helping them to manage their money and put practical plans in place. Advisors will also ensure that all social welfare and other benefits are being claimed and will even negotiate with creditors.

Debt can be a frightening thing, especially when bills pile up and there seems to be no end in sight.

Advisors will not be shocked by any level of debt, they have seen it all before, and have been able to help and support.

Personal debt can be tackled effectively with the proper support and advice and MABS can help. I would urge anyone who needs assistance to contact them or visit their website www.mabs.ie for more information.
