Fianna Fáil is the only major party fully committed to building Metro North

My Party Leader Micheál Martin stated today in the clearest possible terms that Metro North was an important part of the country’s capital investment programme and must go ahead. Fianna Fáil is the only major party contesting the election that has given an absolute commitment to the project.

Metro North will create at least 6,000 construction jobs and an independent report has identified that it can create and sustain 37,000 jobs in business investment along a new ‘Metro North Economic Corridor’.

Fingal is the fastest growing county in Ireland and Metro North is a sustainable, sensible, long-term investment that will yield significant benefits for the country and the community.

An Bord Pleanála has approved the Metro from the Estuary stop in Swords to St Stephen's Green. The decision includes the provision of an underground link from the city centre to Ballymun where the line will cross the M50 on a bridge.

Fianna Fáil is the only major party contesting this election that has given an absolute commitment to the construction of Metro North. Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny is on the public record as saying some projects, like the metro projects in Dublin, would be put on the back-burner and Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has also been less that forthright on the issue. The comments of these party leaders are in stark contrast to the promises made locally by their representatives. Fianna Fáil does not have that problem. I am totally committed to ensuring this project goes ahead and so is my party leader, so much so that it was highlighted as a priority at their launch of our election manifesto today.

Metro North in an investment in our future and the opposition must come clean on their plans for this vital project.
