Fry Model Railway must be kept at Malahide Castle

I am appalled by the news that the world famous Fry Model Railway is facing closure at Malahide Castle.

This has been a major feature at Malahide Castle for over 20 years and has proved to be a major tourist attraction and is well supported and enjoyed by the local community.

The redevelopment of the Craft Court Yard by Fingal County Council, while welcome, is not reason enough to scrap the Fry Model Railway from the castle.

I welcome the redevelopment but I believe it can take place and a place can still be secured for the museum at Malahide Castle.

Many people are really shocked by this news and many have been taken aback by it.

A redevelopment of the Craft Courtyard and the continued presence of the Fry Model Railway would actually enhance Malahide Castle and has the potential to increase tourist numbers.

Fingal County Council seems to have been really short sighted in this decision.

I know my colleague Councillor Eoghan O’Brien is tabling a motion on this important issue for the next area committee.
