Labour Whip either wedded to politics of past or ignorant to workings of Oireachtas - O’Brien

Dublin North TD Darragh O’Brien has today dismissed as absurd the press statement released in Deputy Emmet Stagg’s name this afternoon.

“I find it astonishing the manner in which the seasoned Labour Whip either appears wedded to the politics as usual approach, or else exposes an incredible ignorance to the manner in which the Houses of Oireachtas operate.”

“Had Deputy Stagg paused for a moment to check, he would have easily established the fact that the Climate Change Bill will commence in the Seanad next week. I would also reassure him that the other Bills he referenced will be dealt with in a speedy, but comprehensive fashion, over the coming weeks. I hope this puts his mind to rest on the matter.”

“In the meantime, I would have thought Deputy Stagg would be better served to spend his time attempting to figure out how to present the electorate with an outline on how they will bridge the deep and varied policy gulfs between Labour and Fine Gael. At present, it would seem that this is an impossible task.”
