DRUGS TASK FORCE

First Community Care Team
It is an honour for me to serve as Chairperson of the North Dublin Regional Drugs and Alcohol Task Force, which brings together all the community, voluntary and statutory sectors agencies, and we have three broad aims with regard to drug and alcohol abuse- Prevention & Education, Treatment & Rehabilitation, as well as Supply Control and Reduction.
I have initiated, for the very first time in North Dublin, a Community Care Team based in Swords, which is a one-stop shop for people and their families struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. I want to see this properly resourced and replicated across the country.
Bringing individual, family and community together
Community Care Teams can play a crucial role in delivering individual, family and community support in the co-ordinated manner necessary to properly impact the challenges families face, and deliver the best results for the community, and we must support their work with adequate resources.
Effective Substance Abuse Strategy
Here’s what we plan to do: We are going to develop and implement an effective National Substance Abuse Strategy for all drugs including smoking, cannabis, hard drugs and prescription drugs. The most effective and efficient approach to do that is to appoint a dedicated Minister for Drugs whose office links up all the key strategies, and allocates the funding appropriately, in all urban and rural settings
