The vast majority are following public safety advice, around social distancing, no unnecessary travel & not staying within 2KM of your home. However extra TEMPORARY powers are now in place to help in this National effort to stop the spread of the Virus.
From this morning, Gardaí are launching nationwide patrols and checkpoints to discourage people from undertaking unnecessary travel this Easter weekend.
The regulations were signed last night giving the Gardaí the legal power to turn people away and to arrest and detain those in breach of the limits set.
Penalties are €2,500 fine and 6 months in prison if in breach of the restrictions.
Stay at home and keep our communities safe.
