Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Trade, Darragh O’Brien TD has expressed his condolences on the death of Northern Ireland’s former Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
Commenting this morning Deputy O’Brien said, “Martin McGuinness will be deeply mourned not only by his family, friends and colleagues in Sinn Féin, but also in communities throughout Ireland and in particular in his beloved Derry. “Martin was an influential and transformative individual who came to recognise that the best route to peace was not through armed struggle but through dialogue, compromise, respect and reconciliation. He has left an indelible mark and the relative peace that is now enjoyed by all people in Ireland is due in part to his commitment and determination to the see the full realisation of the peace process. “On a personal level, I had the pleasure of meeting Martin on a number of occasions, most recently in London just before Christmas. I always found Martin to be personable, courteous and engaging. “I want to extend my deepest sympathies to express my sincere condolences to Martin’s family, friends and also his colleagues in Sinn Féin.
